Fields to Families

Based in the Charleston, SC area, Fields to Families (F2F) believes all people deserve access to healthy, quality food options. Since 2006, F2F has worked to bridge the gap between excess produce and the community by collecting donations from local farms, markets & gardens to feed the food insecure population. The program coordinates volunteers to glean crops or potential food waste as requested per farmer. Donated fruit, vegetables & eggs are strategically delivered to food programs-- providing healthy, quality food options directly to people. The organization consists of a board of directors, a program director and a base of volunteers, along with well-established and new partnerships in the community including farmers, schools, and other local businesses.

Loaves & Fishes Greenville

Loaves & Fishes is a 501(c)3 nonprofit established in 1991 to eliminate hunger in Greenville County by rescuing food that would otherwise go to waste. Though many of our food agency partners are in places of worship, L&F is not religiously affiliated. We donate surplus food to secular groups, nonprofit partners, and religious partners of all kinds. Our drivers and volunteers rescue food and deliver it free of charge to 151 local food partner agencies (102 active in 2022). The Loaves & Fishes model ensures that when food is pulled from a grocery store shelf to be rescued it is put on a dinner table the same day, typically. Unlike most food rescues, we do not store, or warehouse rescued food, keeping our costs low and the return on investment high. Since 1991 we have rescued over 43M pounds of food in Greenville County from over 150 grocery stores, factories, farms, and restaurants in the Upstate. As the oldest and largest food rescue in the Upstate, it is our mission to eliminate food waste and food insecurity across the Greenville County food ecosystem. We are building a sustainable, resilient, and inclusive food structure that optimizes environmental resources, minimizes climate impacts, and makes the best use of the food we grow.
