Alabama Gleaning & Food Recovery Organizations
FeedBHM at Grace Klein Community
FeedBHM mobilizes volunteers in Birmingham, AL, who are dedicated to ending hunger by rescuing food from local restaurants, grocers and cafes and end food waste. We give that food to those who are experiencing food insecurity in Birmingham. FeedBHM is the food rescue program of Grace Klein Community (“GKC”). GKC exists as an educational and charitable 501(c)3 nonprofit providing relief to the poor, the distressed, and the underprivileged; lessening community tensions; eliminating prejudice and discrimination; and combating community deterioration and juvenile delinquency. GKC is now in its 12th year of providing support through food rescue, re-purposing and sharing to support food-insecure families in the Birmingham area. In 2020, we rescued over $2 million worth of food donations. This rescued food would have been taken to landfills, but we are able to put that food in the hands of families in our community who need food assistance. Our vision is to eliminate hunger and food waste in Birmingham by 2025!
